The Summer Grand Terrace at the Grand Hotel Europe will be open from the 1st of May. In keeping with tradition, the open-air restaurant will be located on the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Mikhailovskaya Ulitsa, along the stunning façade of the Grand Hotel Europe created by the renowned Italian architect Carlo Rossi.
Here, just a few steps away from the city’s main thoroughfare, guests can enjoy culinary delicacies crafted by the Grand Hotel Europe’s chefs, and sit back and observe the energetic life of Russia’s northern capital. The terrace’s soft, comfortable armchairs are conducive to pleasant conversation and relaxation.
The Summer 2010 collection of dishes not only includes traditional favourites from the hotel’s seven restaurants, but also contains a surprise for regular guests. The Thai chef Somchai Thongkham is coming especially from Myanmar to introduce St. Petersburgers to the delights of cuisine from his native country.
The menu will therefore comprise two parts: The ‘permanent collection’, consisting of European and Russian dishes, and the ‘temporary collection’, consisting of Thai dishes. The Thai section will be updated regularly.
The ‘permanent collection’ of the menu will consist of dishes prepared by the Italian chef of Rossi’s restaurant, Vincenzo Squarciafico.
Somchai Thongkham, who will prepare the Thai dishes, has a wealth of experience working at the top hotels in Indochina: in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar; in Pattaya in Thailand; and in Amata, the most exclusive resort in Myanmar. He has also worked in Russia before — in 1994 he worked in the restaurants of the Renaissance Olympic Penta hotel in Moscow during a festival of Thai cuisine.
